Seduction Under Promise of Marriage

The Criminal Code, 1892, S.C. 1892, c. 29, s. 182.

[Seduction under promise of marriage.]
182. Every one, above the age of twenty-one years, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to two years’ imprisonment who, under promise of marriage, seduces and has illicit connection with any unmarried female of previously chaste character under twenty-one years of age. 50-51 V., c. 48, s. 2.

212. Every one, above the age of twenty-one years, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to two years’ imprisonment who, under promise of marriage, seduces and has illicit connection with any unmarried female of previously chaste character and under twenty-one years of age. 55-56 V., c. 29, s. 182.

144. Every male person, being twenty-one years of age or more, who, under promise of marriage, seduces an unmarried female person of previously chaste character who is less than twenty-one years of age is guilty of an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for two years.

Every male person who, being twenty-one years of age or more, who, under promise of marriage, seduces an unmarried female person of previously chaste character who is less than twenty-one years of age is guilty of an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for two years. 1953-54, c. 51, s. 144.

157. Every male person, being twenty-one years of age or more, who, under promise of marriage, seduces an unmarried female person of previously chaste character who is less than twenty-one years of age is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years. R.S., c.C-34, s. 152.

[Repealed. Statute came into force in 1987.]
